Scott Health & Safety Announces Introduction of Scott Hazmat Radiocom® II
Scott Health & Safety, Monroe, NC ( a part of Tyco Fire & Security Breathing Systems business unit) (January 6, 2006) — Scott Health & Safety has announces the release of the new Scott Hazmat Radiocom® II , an effective interface between a portable radio and the Scott AV-2000® series facepiece for those wearing a Level A Hazmat suit and Scott SCBA.
The facepiece-integrated communications system was developed exclusively for the New York City Fire Department Hazardous Material Team by Scott Health & Safety and Ultra Electronics-Audiopack, Cleveland, Ohio. Following the launch of the product for FDNY, it is anticipated that the system will become available to the entire fire service user community in early 2007.
“As a 50-year customer of Scott Health & Safety, FDNY has provided valuable input to Scott for the development of many products now standard in the fire service,” says Tom Korb, Scott’s Fire Service Marketing Manager. “The concept of the Scott Hazmat Radiocom II is based on the extensive needs of New York’s hazardous materials response team, which have been elevated since 9/11. With this new communications device, FDNY’s hazmat teams will experience improved communications between teams, resulting in greater response time while protecting the safety of its firefighters.”
The Scott Hazmat Radiocom II is designed to interface with the Jedi Series walkie-talkie/two-way radio family. The system consists of a mask-mounted radio interface assembly and push-to-talk (PTT) switch assembly. The interface assembly features a boom with ear speaker and red LED for push-to-talk notification. The PTT switch assembly features a large PTT button and swivel-mounted, suspender style belt clip.
The Scott Hazmat Radiocom II has two communication modes: outgoing communications and incoming communications. Outgoing communication is achieved by pressing the PTT button while speaking. Incoming communication is automatically achieved through the boom mounted ear speaker. The Scott Hazmat Radiocom II is NIOSH approved and UL 913 approved.
“The Scott Hazmat Radiocom II will enable members of the FDNY’s Hazardous Material Team to communicate clearly and effectively without removing their masks,” says Jon Adams, president of Ultra Electronics-Audiopack. “It was designed with a raised PTT button to ensure that the PTT could be actuated in case of a sloppy hit with a gloved hand. It is equipped with a guard to prevent unintentional activation.”
