SEMS Wins National Design Award
Scott Health & Safety, Monroe, NC ( a part of Tyco Fire & Security Breathing Systems business unit) - Scott’s Emergency Management System (SEMS) has won a Distinction Award for Desgn from I.D. Magazine for 2004. Since 1954, the magazine’s Annual Design Review has recognized the best in product, furniture, graphic and environmental design, from the iconic to the obscure. Throughout the years, this annual showcase has chronicled the evolution of design, and highlighted its impact on our material and visual culture. Each year, the featured work is chosen by a jury of leading practitioners, who, along with I.D.’s editorial team, focus the abundance of submissions into a clear survey of the state of design. The award was officially announced in the July/August issue of the magazine.
SEMS is designed to provide an air management system/PASS for the firefighter that transmits and receives information, such as low cylinder air, to and from a base station outside of the IDLH environment. This allows for better accountability of the firefighter by the incident commander. Its automatic operation is similar to the Scott Pak-Alert SE® and alerts a firefighter down alarm to the base station within 10 seconds of full activation. In addition, an incident commander can signal selected individuals or all logged-on users to evacuate for up to 48 users, tracking up to 100 total. A simple laptop connected to base station allows viewing of all users in a consolidated method. SEMS is available through any of Scott’s network of distributors throughout the United States and Canada.
