Scott Sponsors SWAT World Challenge
Scott Health & Safety, Monroe, NC ( a part of Tyco Fire & Security Breathing Systems business unit) - Over 20 SWAT and tactical teams from around the world converged on Moyoc, NC at the Blackwater Training Facility to participate in the 2004 World Swat Challenge. The World SWAT Challenge is an invitation only World Championship competition designed to challenge the fitness, motivation, tactical and weapons skills of the world’s top SWAT teams.
The event required each team to execute eight SWAT-related scenarios in competition with other teams. The team with the lowest completion time and highest score won the scenario. Scott Health & Safety, a co-sponsor of event and the “terrorist hostage” scenario, provided members of each team with a Scott M-98™ gas mask and Enforcement filter to wear in their scenario. Each SWAT team was required to force open the front door of a house that was filled with tear gas, shoot the “terrorists” who were occupying the building, and rescue the officer that was being held hostage. The winner of the Tyco/Scott Terrorist Hostage scenario was Orange County Sheriffs Department from Orange County, Florida.
In addition to providing the equipment, Scott trained each team in the proper use of the M-98 and M-95 gas mask. As a result of Scott’s sponsorship and involvement, 500 M-95 masks and 1,400 filter units were ordered the following week.
The overall winning team from San Antonio, Texas was presented with Scott M-98 gas masks, Scott Enforcement canisters, and Scott tactical bags, in addition to Scott hats and t-shirts. The Orange County Team also won Scott tactical bags, hats, and t-shirts for their efforts.
The event was televised on ESPN2 in July, 2004 and will be re-televised in October 2004.
