Scott Health & Safety Introduces the BioPak 240 Revolution Closed Circuit Breathing Apparatus

Superior respiratory protection for first responders and rescue workers responsible for long-duration emergency applications

DATELINE (December 21, 2007) - Scott Health & Safety (business unit of Tyco International), today announced the introduction the BioPak 240 Revolution 4-hour closed circuit breathing apparatus (CCBA) for use in environments needing long-duration respiratory protection in Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH) environments.

Often referred to as a rebreather, CCBA's are ideal for use in applications where there is the potential for IDLH exposure for long periods of time such as decontamination, urban search and rescue, rail car accidents, tunnel extrication or collapse, structure collapse, or any environments requiring fully encapsulated level A suit applications.

"While all closed ciruit breathing apparatus perform the same basic long-duration respiratory protection function, the Scott BioPak 240 Revolution rebreather features numerous innovations that set it apart from the competition," says Marty Lorkowski, Scott's Industrial Marketing Manager, "Unlike any other CCBA, the BioPak 240 Revolution CCBA features both a quick-change cooling system that be replaced while being worn without breaking the breathing loop, and a patented CO2 scrubbing system design utilizing solid absorbents that enable rapid deployment. These two features alone make the BioPak 240 Revolution a leader in the field of closed-circuit breathing apparatus."

User comfort and safety are highlights of the BioPak 240 Revolution CCBA design. Its ergonomic, body- contoured design features a slim profile allowing for easy use under protective gear. A fully-padded harness system positions the unit on the hips reducing fatigue and can be adjusted to fit any size user. And because it can deliver six liters of tidal volume, it delivers the lowest resistance, easiest breathing of any rebreather available today, cutting return to service time by 50%. Visual, audible and mechanical alarms alert the user to low oxygen, low battery, high temperature, and a missing coolant canisters. The mechanical alarm is independent and redundant to the audible and visual alarms providing added safety.

While comfortable, the Scott BioPak 240 Revolution is still rugged, built of stainless steel reinforced polymer construction and ready to withstand the rigors often associated with emergency rescue. The Scott BioPak 240 Revolution CCBA has a lower cost of ownership than any other rebreather. "Scott is well known in the industry as a premiere manufacturer of quality, reliable products." says Mr. Lorkowksi, "With the BioPak 240 Revolution CCBA, we continue that tradition providing patented, cutting-edge technology and state-of-the-art safety and performance representing the most significant advancements in a closed-circuit breathing apparatus in years."

The new Scott BioPak 240 Revolution CCBA will be available to the industrial safety, first responder and military markets exclusively through Scott's authorized distributor network.
