Scott Health & Safety Celebrates 75th Anniversary

A small aviation company started in Buffalo, NY in 1932 becomes a global leading manufacturer of personal protective equipment

DATELINE (January 18, 2008) – Scott Health & Safety today announced the introduction of the EPIC™ (Enhanced Performance Integrated Communications) Voice Amplifier for the Scott Air-Pak® SCBA and other Scott air-supplied and air-purifying respirators.

“Communications is critical for first responders and others working in hazardous environments or responding to emergency situations,” explained Tom Korb, Scott’s North American Fire Service Marketing Manager. “The new EPIC communications systems provide first responders with a user-friendly, versatile solution, enabling them to maintain effective person-to-person local communications.”

The EPIC Voice Amplifier is a state-of-the-art voice projection device designed for use with Scott AV-3000™ or AV-2000® facepieces. It's compact, easy-to-use design is securely mounted to the user’s facepiece with a 40 mm diameter speaker angled in the direction the user is facing to project the user’s voice clearly and distinctly.

“The new EPIC Voice Amplifier's strong, clear voice communication is an important advantage because emergency workers must often work in noisy environments where a user’s voice is often unintelligible or drowned out,” Korb said.

The device features an automatic shutoff, which will turn off the EPIC Voice Amplifier in the event the user forgets to do so. The automatic shutoff deactivates the device approximately 20 minutes after its last use. This is important because it saves valuable battery life. The EPIC Voice Amplifier also incorporates a low battery LED indicator.

The EPIC Voice Amplifier is approved for use as an accessory on both of Scott's newest models NFPA, 2007 and 2002 approval edition models of Air-Pak SCBA - the Air-Pak® NxG7™ and Air-Pak 75™ SCBA's as well as for previous 2002 NFPA approved Scott SCBA (Air-Pak Fifty™ and Air-Pak NxG2™). In addition, the EPIC Voice Amplifier meets intrinsic safety requirements for U.S., Canadian and European markets.
